I hastened! Firstly: what a great thing is remembering that one can do a thing. Secondly, it has snuck under my hardcore folk exclusion fence by virtue of this being December and it sounding extremely ancient (on no account ask me to defend the logic of that!)
Splendid! No challenge to logic will be issued.
Oh fish I can't haste because butterfly is playing lovely Spanish (?) music on our shared speakers :-(
PS Why are all smileys on your blog one-eyed?
I couldn't possibly comment - I thought I'd noticed that the other day, then thought perhaps I should have gone to Specsavers...
I am just reading up on sailors' tattoos for poem research purposes, so "oh fish I can't haste" and "one-eyed smileys" reached me with a distinctly nautical tang.
I'm sorry to say that I misread "poem" as "porn". Definitely Specsavers time.Ar-har me hearties.
Festina lente.....because you might not like what you find when you get there :-(
I suspected you wouldn't like it
I preferred Incense Man....
What is that noise people make when they're "doing" folk? Did everyone once speak/sing in nasal Westcountry-ese? Alison xx
It's even more bizarre when you know that Mike Waterson hailed from Hull. Given that folk songs were passed down orally, and very locally, it's strange that someone, somewhere devised a sort of folk style/cliche. However, the Watersons were hugely influential in the folk revival of the 1960s and know/knew an awful lot about the tradition. I don't know where they got this version of The Bitter Withy from. I've always loved it - it makes my hair stand on end. I wasn't expecting anyone else to like it though :-)xx
Your smileys are one-eyed because the font you are using makes the level of the top dot in a colon or semicolon the same as the level of the dash : - in other fonts, the dash is about halfway up the [semi]colon, so looks more face-like... [sorry this isn't at all relevant to the original post!]
Maybe not but it's helpful! Peering closely at them now that you say that, I can see the other dot..... How strange of the font :-)(You can skip the Spacesavers Andrea.....)
Thank you Abbeybufo! How very observant of you. Cestina - Spacesavers? Wot?
Oops for space read specs....my typing has a mind of its own. Witness regular replacement of River Thames with River Thomas (it just did it again!)
